MLS .................major league team sport to return in the US
Jun 17, 2020
Following on from my recent MLS is Back article, where I set out the competition rules, the draw has now been made...............
Group A: Orlando City, Inter Miami, NYCFC, Philadelphia Union, Chicago Fire, Nashville SC
Group B: Seattle Sounders, FC Dallas, Vancouver Whitecaps, San Jose Earthquakes
Group C: Toronto FC, New England Revolution, Montreal Impact, DC United
Group D: Real Salt Lake, Sporting KC, Colorado Rapids, Minnesota United
Group E: Atlanta United, FC Cincinnati, NY Red Bulls, Columbus Crew
Group F: LAFC, LA Galaxy, Houston Dynamo, Portland Timbers
Groups B to F are played on a round robin basis, in Group A teams play just 3 of the 5 within their group .
A few odd competition decisions have been made, but are set in stone now so no point in anyone complaining, least of all me !
Teams will begin arriving in Florida next Wednesday (24th) and the competition will open with Orlando City- Inter Miami on July 8th.
"Officially" it should be David Beckham's Inter Miami, in much the same way as it was Frank Lampard's Derby County for all of last season !
That is always going to be an issue (selling point to some) when the individual head coach/owner/face of the brand is a bigger name than the club !
Stay safe and good luck !
