St. Pauli will be returning to the Bundesliga after 13 years next season and will be a breath of fresh air, with their staunch left wing principles, fervent desire to do things differently, a social responsibility, an openly gay president of what is a members owned club and a recently turned 31 yo head coach in Fabian Hurzeler (pictured). He was predicted to be a great coach by Emre Can , who has worked under Heynckes, Klopp and Allegri, way back in 2016, when Hurzeler was just 23 years of age, so that was a good shout! Also promoted are Holstein Kiel. Fortuna Dusseldorf will compete in the playoff game with the team who finish 16th in the Bundesliga.

Top 5 qualify for the Champions League, 6th for the Europa League and 7th for the Europa Conference League. 
 
If Dortmund win the Champions League, the sixth placed team would also go to the premier competition. If Leverkusen win the DFB-Pokal and they are playing a second tier team in the final, that Europa League place would go to the team in 7th and the Conference spot to the team in 8th.
 
Bottom two are relegated, the team in 16th will face the two legged relegation playoff game.
 
Only Leipzig, Dortmund, Wolfsburg ,BMG and Darmstadt have nothing at stake. although results elsewhere are likely to make that also true for others, especially those with very slim hopes of top 8.
 
I suppose we could say the same about the top 3, but Bayern will not wish to finish 3rd, Stuttgart would love to be second and Leverkusen are desperate to become the first Bundesliga team to go all season unbeaten.
