This is one of the biggest games in Brentford's history and they are not even playing !

 

If WBA fail to take all three points and Brentford win their last two games, then the Bees will be a Premier League club come next Wednesday evening, even typing those words seems mental !

 

Albion have matters in their own hands of course, win their last two and they will return to the top flight.

 

Town have six teams below them, but are only three points above the drop zone and face a tricky final day trip to Millwall next midweek, with the Lions still very much in playoff contention. I hope they have done their sums and come to the conclusion that they need something from tonight's game .

 

Obviously Albion are in the driving seat , but they expected to be promoted by now, are under significant pressure and have drawn their last two games scoring just a single goal, Town have kept a clean sheet in 3 of their last 4 starts and are difficult to break down when they do not have to be too adventurous.

 

Albion have drawn 0-0 in 3 of their last eight and Town in three of their last four and it does feel like that the hosts best chance of a result is by holding on to what they come into the game with.

 

The visitors do have a very nasty habit of fading late in recent seasons, they have collected just 13 points from their last 9 starts, 10 from their final 7 last season, 11 from their last 14 outings in 2017-18 and 5 from 12 to finish 16-17 and 4 from 9 in 15-16 ! It doesn't make great reading , well, maybe at my end of the computer it does ! They held a 12 point lead over Brentford 8 games ago and now that is down to just one.

 

Now the tough part, I am no longer able to differentiate between thinking Albion should be opposed or trying to make a case for what I am hoping will happen !

 

What I am certain about is that Albion are under intense pressure , have not finished any campaign strongly for a  very long time, have drawn their last two and Town are at their best when they can just set up to frustrate.
