Liverpool need to win their last two games and hope that Man City slip up at home to Aston Villa on Sunday, goal difference is now unlikely to come into it, all the Reds can do is win twice and hope that favourite son Steven Gerrard will have his Villa squad fired up.

 

Southampton are a strange team, they look ok at times, awful at others and I saw them live at Lionel Road ten days in one of the latter , which was their most recent outing and afterwards noted .....

 

 

I guess Ralph will be demanding a performance and it could come with the TV cameras in attendance and the last 7 h2h meetings at St Mary's have played out 3-1-3  and Saints won 1-0 last season, but had lost eight in a row, home and away to Liverpool prior to that , seven by at least two goals. XGF suggests that Sanits should have scored an additional 11 goals this season, but I saw little evidence of that last week and they have some history of either running out of steam (they play a very hard press at their best) or "losing interest" once survival is assured, for example, with 19 points from their final 25 games last season and they have collected just 5 points from their last 10 starts. Away win is very likely , but we and everyone else already knew that ! However, Saints have scored in 16/17 home games, including v Arsenal, Spurs and Man City (twice) and took 5 points from those three league games, also losing 4-1 to City in the cup, the game they came up short in was the recent 6-0 loss to Chelsea and the Blues might easily have scored 10 that day, as I mentioned earlier, Southampton are a strange team ! Having said that, they have not failed to score in back to back games since September and with Liverpool having conceded in 5/6 away starts, the most likely scenario today is .........
