France: Ligue 2: Orleans- Troyes
Orleans have lost back to back road games at Brest and Nancy and now sit in 8th four points adrift of top 5 with two playoff spots probably already "reserved" and games fast running out. They are a very offensive minded team anyway, so will be all out for the win today and I am expecting an open contest, they have scored 2 goals in each of their last four home starts, the last three of which have gone "over" and ahead of the most recent a 2-1 come from behind win over Clermont my notes included.............
Orleans have now scored 19 in their last 7 league starts and they are unbeaten since mid January. Only the top two Metz and Brest have scored more goals and Orleans have been a breath of fresh air this season with their offensive play, also reaching the last 16 of the Coupe de la Ligue and 8 of the Coupe de France.A wonderful achievement given their budgetry restraints and surely Didier Ollé-Nicolle (pictured) is a contender for COTY.
They are still creating plenty of chances, but giving them up too and it does feel like they might have hit a bit of a wall, having said that, today is last chance saloon and they are not the type of team to fail for lack of effort.
In midweek ahead of Troyes' home game with basement club Red Star I wrote ..........
Troyes are on a roll and my notes on them from a trip to Valenciennes early this month are reproduced below the "good luck" sign off. They won that 1-0 , edged past Gazelec by the same scoreline , then won 3-0 away to fellow promotion hopeful Lorient on Friday, they scored five without reply in those games and are up to third, they look booked for top 5, but are 7 points adrift of Brest in 2nd, so might as well carry on looking for wins now and hope that SB29 slip up at some stage. To be honest , Troyes have been living a bit of a charmed life defensively, Lorient, for example, might have scored three themselves. These things do have a habit of evening out and I almost "expect" Red Star to score tonight and again, favour goals, regardless of whether they come via a close contest, or by another comfortable Troyes win.
Troyes kept another clean sheet and recorded a 5th straight victory in a 2-0 win. They are third, still 7 points adrift of Brest, four ahead of the team below them and "guaranteed" top 5, they will want third (it is a big advantage in the post season) but no need to suddenly play safe until the automatic spot is lost and they have the winning habit, picking up 58 points in 28 starts since week 7, which is 4 more than champions elect Metz and I wonder how many times Troyes have wished they could replay those first six games (five losses) ? The visitors have lost just 1/13 on the road, conceding only 5 goals , however, I repeat that they have led a charmed defensively life recently and also will have not faced many teams who will be as gung ho as I suspect Orleans will be at times today. Troyes have a slightly easier run in than Brest, but will need to win 4/4 and hope that the team in second take just four points, which is a tall order, but Brest do not play until tomorrow, so the first part is in Troyes' hands and they can put pressure on their rival by winning today, if not, they might as well lose. At some stage today we will see one of these two gambling big time and surely goals.Troyes won the reverse fixture 3-2, Orleans scoring both their goals after trailing and being reduced to ten men.
2 units "over" 2.5 goals 2.26 asian line/Sportmarket.

Troyes have been popular in clubgowi notes this season and kindly beat Grenoble last weekend ...........
Troyes are very tough to score against and have given up just 4 goals in 9 starts, none at all in three and won the reverse fixture 2-0. They are now just 2 points off top 5, 9 off the automatic spots with 27 points still to play for, they have a good run of fixtures ahead, next three starts coming against teams with an average league placing of 12.3 and they have still to face 5 of the bottom 9 and they could still have a say in top 2-3.
Troyes edged that 2-1 , it is hard to say how good they are, I like the squad, but they rarely win with more than minimal effort it seems. I wonder how many times they have thought about the first 5-6 weeks of the season, when, after winning on opening day, they then lost their next five starts and they have been playing catch up ever since, half points from those games would have seen them 2nd now and the failure to pick up any, has kind of dictated how they have approached every game since, they have played them like dare not lose games and without much freedom. They are 13-7-4 subsequently, with a 35-17 goal difference, one of the very few high scoring games was a 4-2 defeat of Valenciennes in the reverse fixture, it was an illtempered affair and turning point was a red card for VAFC when leading. I think we will see goals again and an away win, three points will take Troyes into top 5 at least for 24 hours and keep them in automatic promotion contention.
