Guess what's back, back again ....................
May 19, 2020
The first Bundesliga round of games following the restart was completed yesterday and have been widely viewed as a success. Hertha Berlin players have been cautioned for over celebrating their goals and not following guidelines (Dortmund pictured, show how it should be done !), but in general everyone was mindful of their obligations, we saw some entertaining play and whilst it was not football as we know it, it is preferably to nothing and we might as well try to get used to it. The game is not the same without crowds, we all expected that to be the case, but it is still amazing the difference it actually makes and when, eventually, spectators are allowed to return we can hope that they are considered and respected more by some leagues. As terrible as the virus has been and it continues to take a heavy toll, there is an opportunity for sport to learn some lessons about how leagues/players/clubs are structured/ funded and it would feel like a further wrong if these were to be wasted.
You simply cannot have the top flight in England holding liquid cash reserves of £1.8bn and the whole football pyramid in the country in danger of financial collapse after six weeks of lost games, alongside a situation in another top 5 European league where the governing body holds no assets at all, none ! If these issues cannot be addressed now, then when ?
The seven red type weekend bets produced three winners at good odds, one "push" and a decent overall profit. Köln managed to blow a two goal lead when looking in total control and Frankfurt looked awful , but maybe I should save those comments for the upcoming games. I will have updated Bundesliga tables on the clubgowi website tomorrow.
Stay safe and good luck !
