Barbora Zahlavova-Strycova- Sabine Lisicki

 

Sabine Lisicki did not serve us ( see what i did there  !) well on grass courts this summer, but she has won a LOT of money for some of us previously and remains a clubgowi favourite, it was clear at Wimbledon that she needed to up her fitness levels, what no young woman needs is Toni Nadal telling the media and whole world that she needs to lose weight ! However, Lisicki who has the biggest serve in tennis and the talent to win slams (she should really have two Wimbledon titles already IMO) appears to have slimmed down a little and looked very good here in beating Camila Giorgi 4 & 0 in a little over an hour on Thursday. After breaking early in the first, she never looked like dropping her own serve and did not face a break point all match, hitting 13 aces of her own and being all over the Giorgi second serve , with the Italian winning just 7 of 23 points. the Lisicki serve was awesome, it always is when she gets into a groove, but her game is about more than that, which makes her so frustrating at times and why I guess Uncle Toni spoke out . We saw the full array, slices, top spin,  really heavy ground strokes which barely left the ground and some very aggressive baseline play. In this mood she can beat anybody and I do mean anyone, but if that Lisicki takes to the court today, or an imposter, we do not yet know.
 

The pair met just a couple of weeks ago at the Canadian Masters with Lisicki winning fairly comfortably in straight sets and that without her serve really being on song, she got a really good look at the BZS second serve and if that is the case today and she picks up a few more easier service points, this might not take too long. The Czech girl had an eyecatching opening round win over Timea Bacsinszky, but her oppoent put in a terrible performance, well it wasn't a performance and she would have lost to any top 1,000 ranked player that day. BZS struggled with #112 ranked Qiang Wang in R2 and it is seven months she made it past R3 in any event and she has only managed that once in 38 slam appearances and coming into this year was 3-9 in New York and is up against it today.
 

If you exclude Wimbledon, BZS is 0-11 versus top 20 ranked players in slams (that win over Bacsinszky aside and I do not know who it was she played on Monday, but it was not the real Bacsinszky !), with nine defeats coming in straight sets.
