Goals and thrills aplenty, but at what cost ?

Burnley scored the two goals we were looking for before half time in the "Race to the Championship" game. The goals continue to flow in the EPL in general and since I wrote the "That's Entertainment" piece, the 13 top flight fixtures have produced 46 at the rate of 3.54 per game. These trends show no signs of abating and we are big on two Premier League games and two teams today to follow suit.
The EPL really is the gift that keeps on giving and a television network's dream, even if it costs an arm and two legs to screen the games! Not just goals, but a close title race with three teams separated by just a couple of points (with the other four top European leagues already done and dusted) and also a dramatic relegation battle.
The relentless nature of the EPL might have come at a cost in Europe this season, but fine margins decided the City and Arsenal ties and it is probably too soon to jump to that conclusion, but their demise, and that of Liverpool in the Europa League seems likely to have cost the Premier League a 5th Champions League spot for next season. One has already gone to Serie A and the Bundesliga are big odds on to claim the other. Even if Aston Villa were to win the ECL, just two wins from at least six and a potential nine games for the three remaining Bundesliga teams... Bayern/Dortmund/Bayer, would be enough to seal the deal.
